The wok: Chinese cuisine

Restaurant exterior on main street

The Wok: Chinese Cuisine is located in Livingston, Montana. The Wok is housed in a historic building on main street and its interior bring quite a surprise: With a full western style bar running along the right wall, old wood flooring, and open back wall connecting to the kitchen the wok looks nothing like a traditional Chinese restaurant. Although the appearance is slightly unorthodox The Woks serves up delicious hearty portions of traditional Chinese dishes. With dedicated vegetarian menu, and located 35 minutes outside of Yellowstone national Park(which has minimal vegetarian dining options) The Wok provides plenty of options for vegetarian seeking a fulfilling meal after a long day of hiking.

Vegetable Lo-Mein

Looking for a place to eat after visiting Yellowstone we arrived at the Wok 15 minute before closing. Despite being close to closing the staff gave us ample time to look over the menu and order food. We ordered tofu in spicy bean sauce, vegetable lo-mein, and sauteed broccoli. Our food arrived quickly accompanied by chili sauce and a huge pot of rice. The Tofu in spicy bean sauce was soft on the inside with a perfect chewy fried layer on the outside. The sauce had a good balance of flavor and spice and stayed coated on the tofu as you ate it. The sauteed broccoli was our favorite dish with the broccolis being cooked to a bright green and paired with a light teriyaki sauce that was the perfect sweetness. The Lo-mein was savory and an explosion of flavor as well as being so large we needed to get a to go box. Overall the food and experience was great with all our plates being clean at the end off the meal and the food being filling and delicious. Our one note would be that they tend to go heavy on the sauce which can make dishes too rich and sweet for some.

A few Yellowstone pictures from our visit.
