EaDough…Eado’s best bakery
Eadough Bakery and Provisions is a walk up bakery located in East Downtown Houston on the corner of Polk and Velasco St. The store front is minimalistic with a painted logo on the brick wall of the bakery and a nook under a canopy in the center of the building with a pastry shelf, ordering window, seasonal menu , and coffee amenity shelf. The shop offers specializes in Viennoiserie(puff pastry breads) and offers a wide variety of Texas style kolaches. Eadough also has baked goods like muffins, cakes, and bread loaves while also serving breakfast sandwiches and having a full beverage menu.
Sag Paneer Kolache(Left), Breakfast Sandwich(Center), Mango Mac Croissant(Top Box), Cruffin(Bottom Box).
The Mango Macadamia croissant had a macadamia filling with a light mango cream on top and a coating of sugar. The croissant felt very heavy, but was light upon eating and a good balance of richness and sweetness.
The Rose Lychee Cruffin was my favorite item we ordered. Despite the coating of sugar and fruity lychee filling the pastry doesn’t come off too sweet. the puff pastry is fluffy and slightly crisp on the outside, but airy and buttery inside. The lychee flavored filling stood out tasting exactly like real lychee fruit. The rose flavor was subtle and paired excellent with the lychee enhancing its floral flavor.
The Sag Paneer Kolache was equally as outstanding and proved that Eadough can do sweet and savory. The fillings spices taste authentically Indian and is a prime example of the heights a properly planned culinary fusion can be. My least favorite item was the breakfast sandwich. While there was nothing to dislike about it the “spicy” sauce it comes with is lacking making the sandwich mediocre compared to the rest of Eadough’s strongly flavorful menu.
The Lychee Rose Cruffin is generously filled but the cream is lightly sweetened which balanced well with the pastries sugary exterior.
